I fixed Amy's display. Well, by fixed, I mean I understand what's wrong and can prevent it. The cord are a bit of a jumble and don't like each other, but they are easily accessible and I just need to tug at them and her display comes back.

So, yeah, now that hardware problems are solved I can move onto software problems.

I upgraded Amy to Ubuntu Edgy Eft, and originally the wireless card didn't work, a shocking surprise, but at least the volume and everything else did, including the monitor not spontaneously turning off. Amy's screen has taken to suddenly turning off. Most of the time I cannot get past start-up without it going blank.

On the plus side, the sound is working now.

Amy not having sound 80% of the time is like a literary device in the story of my life.

I have been reading Ender's Game at the behest of Laney and Tyler. I am a little over halfway through and it is probably the best book I have read this year. If for no other reason than the ruling international government is called the Hegemony, like it is some huge mockery right out of Ethnic Studies, because it's so... so... monoculture-oriented ( Read more... )

Even beginning to address the fact that my wireless network card exists causes all three distributions of Linux I have tried (Arch, Kunbuntu, Unbuntu) freeze up.

I can't imagine why Mandriva would be any different, but I guess I won't get to find out. The install screen just goes black on me.

I installed Ark Linux. However, my wireless connection doesn't work. The internet works fine. I also have no idea what I'm doing, such as how to install anything. I downloaded Firefox and starred at the files after extracting them. Then I clicked on them and nothing happened. I need the help of someone who knows what she's doing.
